The onboarding process at slice is designed to provide a structured and immersive experience for new team members, enabling them to understand our product philosophy, design systems, and delivery expectations.
1. Introduction to slice
New joiners are introduced to the broader slice product ecosystem, our user-first design philosophy, and how our design efforts tie into business and product goals.
2. DLS and framework overview
An in-depth walkthrough of the slice Design Language System and supporting frameworks. This ensures consistency, alignment, and effective usage across all design work.
3. Bug hunting
New designers actively participate in identifying inconsistencies, usability issues, and gaps within existing designs. This helps sharpen their attention to detail and provides a ground-level understanding of the system.
4. Project ownership and delivery
Each designer is expected to take ownership of:
One medium-to-large scale project, or
Two or more smaller projects
These should be delivered end-to-end — from research and design to collaboration with cross-functional teams and eventual implementation.
5. Probation evaluation
Successful completion of the above milestones will form the basis of evaluating the probation period. Upon review and agreement between the reporting manager and the assigned buddy, confirmation decisions will be made.
Troubleshooting & Special Scenarios
During this period, a strong focus is placed on assessing intent, integrity, and effort — beyond just output.
In cases where the defined end goals are not met, the probation period may be extended to allow for further evaluation and support.
If projects are paused or dropped due to shifting priorities or external dependencies, the decision to extend or conclude probation will be based on a qualitative assessment aligned with the above criteria.
